NISSAN QASHQAI CHALLENGE RIDES INTO TOWN FOR A SECOND SERIES

NISSAN QASHQAI CHALLENGE RIDES INTO TOWN FOR A SECOND SERIES

ROLLE, Switzerland, (Apr. 3rd, 2008) - Following last year’s success, Nissan is proud to announce the second urban mountain bike freeriding series.  As part of Nissan’s Sports Adventure program, the challenge once again demonstrates the brand’s passion and commitment to adventure sports.

The Nissan Qashqai Challenge 2008 will consist of five contests in Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the UK and this year each event will see a variety of mountain bike disciplines. Once again, the series will offer the most important prize fund in any mountain biking event.

Since it was launched in the spring of 2007, the Qashqai compact cross-over has exceeded all expectations selling over 170,000 units. As in the latest TV commercial, and like the challenge, the car continues to illustrate its urbanproof qualities and its love of playing with the city.

Urban free-riding is the most progressive discipline in mountain biking and illustrates the changing trend of focus from open woodland areas into urban city centres.

With the help & feedback of the Nissan Qashqai Challenge riders committee, Nissan has made several changes to the 2008 format including the addition of ‘Open’ events. Five winners from each Open event will be able to compete against the 15 professional riders at the three Challenge events.  By splitting the series into Open and Challenge events, Nissan has opened up the contest to a wider range of riders.

Jean-Pierre Diernaz, general manager of Nissan Europe’s marketing communications said, “Nissan is committed to taking the exhilarating sport of mountain biking freeriding to the next level and driving its international recognition.  With our focus for 2008 on discovering and inspiring new talent, Nissan is looking forward to an even more exciting second series.”

The Nissan Qashqai Challenge will take place in late April and May. Five back-to-back weekends will provide Europe with first class mountain bike action across the five cities.
