Nissan Announces Safety Technology Strategy

Nissan Motor Company today announced its latest step in its "Real World Safety" campaign.  The company announced that it would install Active Head Restraint in all passenger and recreational vehicles, as standard equipment, sold in Japan by fiscal year 2004.  The company will also equip all Nissan commercial vehicles weighing less than 2.8 tons with the feature by fiscal year 2005.  Active Head Restraint can help reduces the incidence of neck injuries when a vehicle is hit from behind. Nissan will also equip most of its passenger and recreational vehicle lineup with SRS curtain airbag system by FY 2005 to help reduce head and neck injury in side impact crashes.

Since 1995, Nissan has conducted a research on actual crashes with the aim of achieving its ultimate goal of reducing the number of casualties by half in which occupants in Nissan vehicles are severely injured or killed.  Based on the analysis of the research Nissan has developed its original "Triple Safety" concept, based on which Nissan developed safety technologies and products such as a shock-absorbing body structure (Zone-body), anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist system and dual airbags to protect against potential injuries.  By fiscal year 2000, Nissan had already installed these features as standard equipment on most its passenger vehicles in Japan.

Under Nissans policy to pursue "Real World Safety", the company aims to provide effective safety technologies based on the data of actual crashes.

Nissan continues to offer vehicles to consumers that are responsible to society, offering quality, safety and environmental consciousness to fulfill our corporate social philosophy.
