Nissan Announces X‑Trail SOP in Saint Petersburg
- Start of production of the Nissan X‑Trail in St Petersburg will be attended by Paul Willcox, Chairman of Nissan Europe and Dmitry Mikhailox, Managing Director of Nissan Plant there
- New X‑Trail combines best of Nissan's 4x4 heritage and Crossover expertise to create the ultimate alternative to conventional D-segment models
- Production is part of an investment of €167 million to double capacity at St. Petersburg, creating 1,500 new jobs.
St Petersburg, 9th December - Nissan has today announced the start of production of the new X‑trail at St Petersburg as the company boosts its manufacturing presence in Russia.
The new X‑Trail combines the best of Nissan's 4x4 heritage and Crossover expertise to create the ultimate alternative to conventional D-segment models. It is packed with premium yet accessible technologies to enhance driving experience and enable a confident and safer ride with the Safety Shield package.
To cater for one of its biggest markets, Nissan is growing production so that by 2016, 90% of the cars sold in Russia will have been built there. As part of its strong commitment to the Russian market, the company will be reinvesting 90% of profits locally, to continue creating jobs, and boosting the wider economy and supplier chain.
Nissan is doubling the production capacity at the St Petersburg plant to 100,000 vehicles and is increasing the number of models produced there from three to five. In August this year production of the new Nissan Pathfinder started and the new Qashqai will be soon be added to the line.
The new feature-packed X‑Trail includes the acclaimed Nissan Safety Shield, which comprises Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Moving Object Detection, but also Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Assist and Forward Emergency Braking. Parking is also made easier with Around View Monitor with Intel Park Assist, Front and Rear parking sensors and Moving Object Detection.
This latest generation is also the lightest and roomiest in history, with a total weight loss of 90kg while achieving sector-best legroom with the provision for a seven seat option.

Chairman of Nissan Europe, Paul Willcox, said at the ceremony: "The new Nissan X‑Trail - being built right here at the St Petersburg plant - is a further expansion of our manufacturing footprint on Russian soil. This plant has doubled production to 100,000 vehicles and we have increased the number of models on the line from three to five."
