TAP INTO PROFESSIONAL RACE TEAM TELEMETRY WITH GT-R NISMO

  • Nissan brings real and virtual worlds together to deliver cutting edge technology in GT-R NISMO
  • NissanConnect NISMO Plus brings professional race analytics to the GT-R NISMO
  • Revolutionary technology lets drivers replay real laps in Gran Turismo®6 and instantly review their performance through smartphone application

NÜRBURGRING, Germany (June 21st 2014): Ahead of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Nissan has announced a major development to bring professional race car technology to road cars: NissanConnect NISMO Plus.

NissanConnect NISMO Plus makes professional race car telemetry accessible to road car customers. Offered as standard on the GT-R NISMO, it will allow drivers to record data on a real race track and then review it from every angle in Sony Computer Entertainment's Gran Turismo®6. The system logs driver inputs and combines this with data on the GT-R NISMO's speed, RPM and GPS location to build up a full digital reconstruction of a lap.  Drivers can then take to the virtual track to race against this digital recording to perfect lines and braking points before heading back to the circuit in real life. This is unprecedented technology that will help drivers analyse and improve real-world performance from the comfort of the sofa.

Nissan has developed a wealth of experience in using digital technology to enhance performance on-track through the NISMO GT Academy programme. NissanConnect NISMO Plus is inspired by the system used to help NISMO athletes such as Lucas Ordóñez push for faster lap times.

In addition to compatibility with Gran Turismo®6, NissanConnect NISMO Plus sends data from the circuit to a smartphone application. The smartphone app allows drivers to instantly review their performance with lap-time measurement, data analysis and racing line overlays that work with Google Maps. Drivers can review this information the minute the car pits in, allowing drivers to instantly hone track performance. The system will support 178 circuits worldwide, including almost every current European Formula One circuit.

Speaking at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, NISMO President Shoichi Miyatani said: "NissanConnect NISMO Plus makes professional telemetry technology available to NISMO road car drivers. This data allows GT-R NISMO customers to analyse their laps and push for improvements using the same technology as our NISMO athletes."

"We've taken drivers from virtual to reality with NISMO GT Academy, and now we're bringing real-world laps back to Gran Turismo®6 with NissanConnect NISMO Plus, bringing both worlds even closer," added NISMO's Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, Darren Cox. "This is a piece of serious technology designed for professional race teams which can now be used to deliver ultimate excitement to NISMO road car drivers."

NISMO competes in race series all over the world including the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Blancpain GT series, Japanese Super GT and Australian V8 Supercars. The release of this system also follows the recent announcement that Nissan will return to the LMP1 category at Le Mans in 2015.

NissanConnect NISMO Plus will be integrated with Gran Turismo®6 in autumn 2014, with a smartphone application launching later this year.
